Update from the 2 March Council Meeting

posted 5 Mar 2015, 21:30 by Christel Mex
I successfully moved a motion to reduce admission charges to the swimming centres for next season. This also includes the introduction of a ‘spectator’ price so that parents can supervise their kids without having to pay full admission – a great relief for families.

I also supported the motion to amend the outdoor dining policy to make it easier for café’s to have outdoor dining in places like Kensington and Magill Roads – subject to design solutions recommended by a disability access consulted. The policy for The Parade precinct remains unchanged.

Linking this policy to the upcoming Access and Inclusion Plan and outdoor merchandise policy is important. I believe that we need to encourage much more communication between people with a disability, traders and Council.

I also supported community consultation for a proposed citywide 40K in suburban streets. There was much debate whether this should happen before or after Council invested in a traffic study, and members supported going to the community first.

Another good outcome for heritage conservation was the unanimous agreement by Council to support the refurbishment of the St Peters – Gilberton Swing Bridge. It’s a well-used icon in Linear Park and much loved by the local community.

Let me know your views, or if you have any good ideas for our city.

(The views expressed above are mine, and not necessarily the views of Council)
