Update on the Swimming Centres Review

posted 4 Apr 2016, 00:19 by Christel Mex

On 23 March 2016 Council unanimously voted that the long-term swimming centres strategy should continue to based on our two centres in Kensington/Norwood and Payneham. Further community consultation will be undertaken to determine the details of the final Strategy. The options being considered are:

a) redevelopment of the Payneham Swimming Centre as a regional destination which incorporates a 50 metre Swimming Pool, Learners Pool and Wading Pool or splash pad and water play park to cater for the recreational leisure market and in particular the teenage market; and

b) (i) redevelopment of the Norwood Swimming Centre with a new outdoor 25m pool plus a new Learner’s Pool and Toddlers Pool or splash pad and new amenities building; or (ii) maintenance of the existing Norwood Swimming pool, together with a new Learner’s Pool and the refurbishment of the existing facilities whilst respecting the Centre’s traditional heritage.

Details about the consultation process will be available in a few weeks.
